In the nick of time the Neverkusen Crew delivers episode 27 to you on Matchday 5. You have only a few hours before this pod becomes somewhat irrelevant, so have a listen before you tune in on some grainy, Russian live stream to watch the match against Augsburg. Patrick, Tom and Eric discuss the disappointing draw to Metalist in the Europa League, but like popping two Bayer aspirin, the pain goes away while discussing the promising match against Borussia Moenchengladbach. Thanks for listening everyone…has anyone seen Frieda?!
And you thought Bayer Leverkusen’s performance against Borussia Dortmund was bad. The Neverkusen Crew shows up completely unprepared, unmotivated, and under the weather (damn you, alcohol!) reluctant to discuss a brutal reality check at the hands of the German champion. Jesus Christ, if Marcel Schmelzer can look like a world-class LB against us, then all hope is almost completely lost. We are treading water…in a pool full of sharks.
Welcome to the 25th episode of the Neverkusen Podcast. We are happy to be celebrating our silver anniversary, even if we are a man down today (feel better, Frieda!), and we are thrilled about the 2-0 victory over SC Freiburg on the occasion of our big day. In part 1, Patrick, Eric, and Tom discuss the match, focusing on the performance of Bayer 04’s right side of Castro, Bender, and new-comer and immediate fan-favorite, Dani Carvajal! In the second part of the pod we look at the Europa League draw, which has us revisiting some old friends from only two years ago. Tom shares his displeasure. Finally, we take a look at Bayer brass’ decision to sell one of our leading young talents to a small club in England. Tom again shares his displeasure. Enjoy, and thanks for joining us!!
Welcome to the 24th episode of the Neverkusen Podcast. This week we’re feeling a bit down because of the 2-1 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt on the opening day of the 50th Bundesliga season, but Frankfurt superfan, @BigGrabowski (Holger), is all smiles. Join us for a lively discussion about whether anyone could really have friends in Offenbach, the horror that is Bielefeld, and the real possibility that Leverkusen might be in for a looooong season. Oh well, at least Cologne paid us a lot of money to take Michael Rensing! Enjoy the third division, goat heads!!
Boom! The Neverkusen Podcast is back for a second season beginning with Bayer Leverkusen’s convincing victory in the DFB Pokal! Patrick, Tom, and Eric dissect the match against Carl Zeiss Jena like the football-starved dorks that they are, and also have a look at some possible outcomes for the upcoming season. A discussion regarding the most recent open-letter from the LEV Ultras leads a “more mature” Tom to acknowledge that the fight for pyrotechnics in the stadium might be drawing to close (gasp!). And Patrick and Eric realize that they acquire their beer in much different fashion. All this and more, and on the next Oprah….err, on episode 23 of the Neverkusen Podcast.
Welcome to the Neverkusen Podcast Summer Special. We hope that you’re as sick as we are of hearing about the German National Team, and we invite you to join us for 45 minutes of nothing but discussion about the Werkself, Bayer 04 Leverkusen. The Neverkusen crew, Patrick, Frieda, Tom and Eric, are once again reunited (and it feels so good), and they’ve served up a healthy portion of Leverkusen news, gossip, and, of course, beer. Thanks for having a listen, and if there’s anyone out there who wants to play for Patrick U-91 team, please send your information and details to the Neverkusen Podcast
In the season finale of the Neverkusen podcast Captain Patrick fights a hangover, Frieda struggles not to turn into a werewolf, Eric continues to mispronounce players’ names, and Tom barely escapes getting Kadlec’d. The long season is at an end, and not a moment too soon! Thanks to all of our listeners for hanging with us through these several months of roller-coaster emotions – we appreciate all of the support and assistance you’ve given us. Special thanks to all of our guests, as well…especially those that appeared on the pod even when their teams lost (you guys rock). See you this summer with a special episode!
Scheiss FC Koln!
The season is winding down and the Neverkusen Crew is feeling the effects of a long campaign. We might sound a little weary, but don’t let that stop you from listening to the most recent episode of the pod, in which we discuss the match against Hannover 96 and Michael Ballack’s and Rene Adler’s farewell match at the BayArena. Also, we are asking our listeners to share their opinions of Bayer Leverkusen’s season and prospects, and we’ll be reading as many of your answers as possible on next week’s episode. Participate and have your say…who knows, maybe you’ll win some meds…
The season 2011/12 is coming to an end which will hopefully see the Werkself landing 5th place and with that the direct qualification to the Europa League (Eurovision) group stage.
It’s time therefore to gather your thoughts on the present season and to plan the next one.
We would like to incorporate your ideas and feedback into our next (21st) episode. Here is what we want to know from our loyal listeners:
1. Be a Neverkusen Manager for a day (Edition 2011/12)
Current squad situation:
GKs: Bernd Leno,
René Adler,David Yelldell,Fabian Giefer
DFs: Daniel Schwaab,Manuel Friedrich,Ömer Toprak,Bastian Oczipka, Michal Kadlec,Vedran Corluka,Danny da Costa,Gonzalo Castro, Philipp Wollscheid
MFs: Stefan Reinartz,Simon Rolfes,Lars Bender,
Michael Ballack,Renato Augusto,Michael Ortega,Tranquillo Barnetta,Sidney Sam,Karim Bellarabi,André Schürrle, Hajime Hosogai
CFs: Stefan Kießling,Eren Derdiyok,Samed Yesil
Who would you kick out and bring in? Keep it realistic and remember that it should add up roughly to the same (25 players). We assuming for now that only Adler and Ballack are leaving and Wollscheid and Hosogai are joining us for sure. If you want to keep Corluka (8 million euros purchase option) or/and Michael Ortega (5 million euros purchase option), don’t go too mad with the rest of your signings or balance it out with fruitful sales. Loan players who you can order back to the BayArena are: Jens Hegeler, Thanos Petsos, Lucas and Zvonko Pamic
Rudi Völler and Wolfgang Holzhäuser need also to take a decision on the coaching position. Should Sami Hyypiä and Sascha Lewandowski stay on or who would be a realistic and good option for us next season?
2. Neverkusen Moments 2011/12
What were your top 3 moments this season? Rank 3 positive and 3 negative events. Doesn’t have to be tied to a particular game.
3. Neverkusen player of the season 2011/12
Nominate three players for this award and rank them accordingly:
- 1st placed: 5 points
- 2nd placed: 3 points
- 3rd placed: 1 point
It would be great if you could provide us your first name and location (twitter nickname if you like too).
We will discuss the results on Episode #21 and our host Eric will draw a lucky winner for a grand prize: 3 packets of Aspirin (60 tablets) to cope with the next season.
What are you waiting for?
Should you have any questions or just want to send us some love, please comment below.
(Episode 20 will be online most likely on Thursday + there is no grand prize, contribute to Bayer AG yourself 😉 )
“WTF is #tpmuc and #tkss?” Patrick asks our special guest this week, Markus (@mahqz) an SVB fan living deep in the heart of Bavaria. Markus helps the Neverkusen crew break down this week’s victory against 1899 TSG Hoffenheim, and provides us with a first-person perspective of the recent Twitter-generated football gatherings in Munich and Cologne. Look for future football gatherings on Twitter by following Markus and go represent Bayer Leverkusen when you can!
